OVERVIEW

Why use Coaching+?

Working with traumatised clients, especially those with complex needs, increases the risk of physical and psychological / stress related WorkCover claims. The rationale is that clients who are victims of trauma are more likely to become dysregulated and, in the process, potentially injure the staff that are supporting them.

It is not surprising therefore that community services workers, compared to other occupations, have the highest rate of WorkCover claims both for physical and stress related claims in Australia.

Coaching+ aims to reduce the cost of WorkCover claims by providing support to staff who are at risk of physical or stress related injuries or are returning to work following such injuries.

Coaching+ works at two levels:

  1. It increases staff confidence in diffusing potentially violent situations
  2. It encourages staff to realistically assess the risk of aggression by clients ( staff who have been assaulted often overestimate the risk of being injured again and, as a result, can behave in a manner that increases the risk of a subsequent injured).

Who is it suitable for?

All community services workers including teachers.

    Program outcomes

Reduced incidence of WorkCover claims either from physical injury or stress related claims.
